Chris Gober: the money, maps & musk
the musk connection
From Musk’s political operation to a run for Congress.
Chris Gober served as director and chief legal counsel of Elon Musk’s America PAC, which spent more than $260 million during the 2024 election cycle. His firms, Lex Politica and RightSide Compliance, continued working for the PAC, according to Q3 2026 FEC filings.
The New York Times identified Gober as Musk’s “personal attorney” and reported that he helped examine legal questions surrounding the creation and structure of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Gober’s campaign reported more than $3.1 million in receipts, including $1.725 million in personal loans.
His congressional financial disclosure places his estimated personal net worth between $32 million and $107 million.
Approximately $1.58 million in independent expenditures supported his candidacy, separate from campaign receipts, with roughly 97% attributed to super PACs.
His disclosed holdings include political law, compliance, lobbying, and defense advisory firms, along with rental properties in Colorado and Texas.
ai and data centers
American Mission, an AI-backed super PAC, spent approximately $750,000 supporting Gober’s Republican primary campaign.
Gober’s broader political network received funding from tech billionaires like OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman, Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale, and investors Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz. The latter three also donated directly to his campaign.
Gober disclosed $2 million–$10 million in combined interests in Maven Advocacy Partners and Maven Defense Solutions, firms tied to nuclear energy, data center infrastructure, and defense technology. Maven Advocacy Partners reported approximately $1.28 million in lobbying revenue across 2025–2026.
Lex Politica represented Elevate New Mexico, which promoted the proposed $165 billion Project Jupiter AI data center.
Axios reported that Gober removed “Ensuring America’s AI Dominance” from his campaign website amid growing concerns over data centers and Musk’s influence.

the influence
Gober firm websites tout “access” and “influence” across domains.
Gober’s disclosed business interests include Lex Politica, RightSide Compliance, Maven Advocacy Partners, and Maven Defense Solutions.
His political-law clients have included major Republican organizations, Elon Musk’s America PAC, and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.
Gober’s December 2025 financial disclosure invokes attorney-client privilege to conceal every legal client from mandatory congressional disclosure. The full universe of interests he would bring to Congress is unknown. An agreement to sell Lex Politica via installment payments through December 2027 means Gober would receive ongoing income from this undisclosed client base throughout a potential congressional term.
Lex Politica has been retained by the transatlantic right-wing network affiliated with former Hungarian President Viktor Orbán. The Danube Institute is applying for the “Civilizational Bonds” request for proposals issued by the U.S. Dept. of State.

the texas maps
From the redistricting process to the congressional ballot.
Gober represented Texas’s Republican congressional delegation during the 2025 redistricting process. He served in a similar capacity in 2021, when Grimes County, home to Elon Musk’s Terafab project, was newly drawn into the 10th Congressional District.
Mapmaker Adam Kincaid testified that Gober conveyed significant requests from the delegation, many of which Kincaid incorporated.
Gober is now running in the redrawn 10th Congressional District, which includes his home (previously in the 21st Congressional District).
